Why is ballet important for your child's development?
by Victoria International Ballet Academy
Ballet has been proven to be one of the best activities for a child’s development and the benefits are truly priceless!
At Victoria International Ballet Academy we have been observing young dancers mature into beautiful and unique human beings for over 15 years. This of course, does not come without the hard work of teachers and students. But what is it about ballet that enables children to grow up with such a unique perspective on hard work and overall physical and emotional health?
First and foremost, ballet is an art form that does NOT tolerate laziness. Hard work, discipline, and consistency is instilled from a young age in a dancers journey. This is an invaluable lesson, that will help children with any activities chosen in the future. Emotional ability is developed as the student understands that one must be must be steady, driven, and patient in order to develop as a dancer. In addition, respect for teachers and classmates, as well as self-discipline is expected at any reputable ballet institution.
Ballet is a physically demanding art, professionals spend hours in the studio perfecting their craft before performances. Studies show that just half an hour of a ballet class can burn an average of 462 calories! Also, Ballet, in comparison to gymnastics, figure skating, etc. is a really safe physical activity for people of all ages. Ballet develops coordination, impeccable posture, strong and lean muscles throughout the body, musicality, and of course grace.
Ballet would be a sport if it wasn’t for the immense amount of artistic expression involved, this characteristic makes ballet an art form. To be a ballet dancer one must also learn to express oneself through acting, creativity, and a unique approach to each role.
It is important to understand that even if your child will not pursue a professional career in dance, the values learned will always be indispensable.
