The road to a professional career in ballet
by Victoria International Ballet Academy
Growing up, we all have to answer one question repeatedly; ‘What do you want to be when you grow up?’.
As children, we all have different answers. However, there are very few of us who end up turning our passions into our careers. This is mainly because we are not aware of the prospects these professions hold, or what they entail.
Becoming a ballet dancer is a dream for a lot of individuals out there but due to the lack of proper training, very few can make it to the top. Ballet demands a lot of discipline, consistency and determination. Similar to athletes training for the Olympics, ballet dancers must train their body and mind daily to reach peak form and pursue ballet professionally. Ballet dancers are incredibly resilient people, spending countless hours in the studio, dealing with physical aches and pains, and making hard work look easy.
Physical and mental strength are all necessary for a dancer to make it in this highly competitive field, however, there is one more important (if not most important) factor that will determine a dancer’s success. Being guided by a talented and experienced teacher and mentor is a must for those interested in pursuing a career in dance. Not only should a teacher be highly knowledgeable in the ballet curriculum, but it is vital that the teacher has had former stage experience and can properly pass on their knowledge to their students.
There is a whole generation of ballet students out who are limiting their potential just because they are unable to find a professional ballet academy that could equip them with not just the curriculum and skills necessary, but also connect them with the right experts to guide their journey, whether wanting to go pro or reap the benefits of ballet recreationally.
Victoria International Ballet Academy is one of the top ballet schools in Canada, located in Vaughan, Ontario, with a variety of different programs that enable passionate ballet students to become professionals in their field. Most importantly, VIBA is home to highly-qualified teachers, and experts in the most renowned and sought-after method of ballet training (the Vaganova method).
Programs range from after-school ballet classes and weekend classes for tiny dancers, to full-time professional ballet training programs, and even adult ballet programs. All age groups and levels are taught under the careful guidance of skilful and kind teachers. VIBA has a beautiful, spacious facility, and a welcoming environment where children’s talents thrive.
“At Victoria International Ballet Academy, we strive to make our student’s dreams come true.”
