No doubt 50% of dancers success depends on their determination, hard work, discipline, and attitude, but having the right ballet teacher by your side who diligently guides a dancers talent to success is an important part of the equation!
Here are a few qualities to look out for when choosing the right dance teacher:
- They are professional and always come prepared:
A good ballet instructor always professionally conducts him/herself. They know the influence they have on the students they work with and lead by example. They come to class early and prepared, with a lesson plan, music, and a positive attitude.
- Their passion for dance is evident:
A great ballet teacher demonstrates love and respect for the art form of dance. They pass on their enthusiasm and knowledge to their students.
- They have a rich background in their field:
A great ballet teacher has extensive experience and knowledge in the classical art form which he/she can share with students. A qualified ballet teacher has previously worked for a professional company, has had years of classical ballet training, and on-stage experience behind them. Ideally, they should also have a background in ballet mastery/ ballet teacher training, to dance is one thing, but to teach kids is an entirely different science.
- They are patient, respectful, and supportive:
In class, there should always be a balance between strictness and support. A great teacher has a deep understanding of the students he/she is working with. They will motivate students to push their limits but will also know when a break is necessary. They understand that progress takes lots of time and repetition, they encourage students to keep going even when students fail.
At Victoria International Ballet Academy we are incredibly lucky and grateful to work with dedicated, supportive, knowledgeable, and caring teachers!
