EXAMPLE OF THE PROFESSIONAL CHOREOGRAPHIC PROGRAM: FIRST YEAR (GRADE 5)
 EXERCISE AT THE BARRE
The fundamental requirement of the first year of choreographic education is the placement of the body, legs, arms and head in the exercises at the barre and in the centre of the studio. The primary mastering of jumps and placement of the body on the toes, the development of the elementary skills in the coordination of movements are studied.
For the easiest and most correct fulfillment of exercises, one begins studying with the face to the barre. In the following years the studying continues with one hand at the barre. In order to understand the role of turnout, one begins studying exercises to the side and then forward and backward.
  1. Placement of the Body.
  2. Positions of the Legs:
    1st position;
    2nd position;
    3rd position;
    4th position, it is studied the last as one of the most difficult positions;
    5th position.
    Musical measure: 4/4 and 3/4. In order to master and achieve stability of the legs in their respective positions, they are maintained for the duration of 4 beats of 4/4 or 16 beats of 3/4. 
  3. Positions of the Arms:
    Preparatory position;
    1st position;
    2nd position it is studied the last as one of the most difficult positions;
    3rd position.
    In the beginning the arm positions are studied in the centre of the studio, the are in 1st position and absolute turnout of the is not demanded or stressed.
  4. Demi-plie in 1st, 2nd, 5th and 4th positions. Musical measure: 4/4. In the beginning each demi-plie is done in 2 beats of 4/4. Upon improvement it is done in 1 beat.
  5. Battement tendu from 1st position to the side, forward and backward. Musical measure: 4/4 and 2/4. 
  6. Battement tendu with demi-plie in 1st position to the side, forward and backward. Musical measure: 4/4 and 2/4. 
  7. Demi-rond de jambe par terre. This movement is done in preparation for studying rond de jambe par terre. Musical measure: 4/4.
  8. Passe par terre is studied through 1st position with a stop on the floor with a stretched toe forward and backward.
  9. Rond de jambe par terre en dehors and en dedans (in the beginning the terms en dehors and en dedans are explained). Musical measure: 4/4 and 2/4. 
  10. Battement tendu from 5th position to the side, forward and backward. Musical measure: 4/4 and 2/4. 
  11. Battement tendu with demi-plie in 5th position to the side, forward and backward. Musical measure 4/4 and 2/4. 
  12. Battement tendu jete from 1st and 5th positions to the side, forward and backward. Musical measure: 4/4. 
  13. Battements tendus jetes with demi-plie in 1st and 5th positions to the side, forward and backward. 
  14. Battements tendus pour le pied from 1st and 5th positions: a) with the lowering of the heel in 2nd position; b) with the lowering of the heel in 2nd position in demi-plie (second term) Musical measure: 4/4.
  15. Releve lent at 45° to the side, forward and backward. Musical measure: 4/4, it is studied in 2 beats of 4/4.
  16. Battements tendu jetes piques. Musical measure: 4/4, it is done in 1/4.
  17. Battements tendus jetes with a bent instep of the working leg at the height of 25° to the side, forward and backward. Musical measure: 4/4. The movement is studied in 1 beat with a steady rhythm. 
  18. The leg in the position of sur le cou-de-pied at the front and back in the basic and free positions is studied first with a stretched leg in 2nd position with the toe to the floor and later it is done in 5th position.
  19. Battements frappes to the side, forward and backward. In the beginning it is studied by opening the working leg with the toe to the floor. In the second term it is done at 45°. Musical measure 4/4 and 2/4. (In the beginning it is studied in 1 beat of 4/4, upon improvement it is done in 1 beat of 2/4.) 
  20. Petit battement sur le cou-de-pied (a steady tranferring of the foot). Musical measure: 4/4 and 2/4.
  21. Battements doubles frappes to the side, forward, backward. In the beginning it is studied by opening the working leg with the toe to the floor. In the second term it is done at 45°. Musical measure: 4/4. 
  22. Battements fondus to the side, forward and backward. In the beginning it is studied by opening the working leg with the toe to the floor. In the second term it is done at 45°. Musical measure: 4/4. 
  23. Releve on demi-pointes in 1st, 2nd, 5th positions. Musical measure: 4/4 and 3/4. (It is done in 2 beats of 4/4, 1 beat of 4/4, and 1 beat of 2/4.)
  24. Grand plie in 1st, 2nd, 5th and 4th positions. Musical measure: 4/4. (It is done in 2 beats of 4/4.) 
  25. Battements soutenus to the side, forward, backward. In the beginning it is studied on the whole foot: in the 22nd term, with releve on demi-pointes in 5th position. Musical measure: 4/4. The movement is done in 1 beat of 4/4. 
  26. Preparation for rond de jambe par terre en dehors and en dedans. Musical measure 4/4 . The movement is done in 1 beat of 4/4 and later it is done in 2/4.
  27. Battements releves lent at 90° from 1st and 5th positions to the side, forward and backward. In the beginning it is done to the side and back while facing the barre. To the front it is done while holding the barre with one hand. Musical measure: 4/4. The movement is done in 2 beats of 4/4. 
  28. Grand battements jetes from 1st and 5th positions to the side, forward and backward. In the beginning it is studied to the side and back while facing the barre. To the front it is studied while holding the barre with one hand. Musical measure: 2/4. In the beginning it is done in 1 beat of 2/4 and later each movement is done in 1/4 and 1/4, while standing in the position. 
  29. Rond de jambe en l’air en dehors and en dedans. The studying of the exercise begins by bending and straightening the legs at the knee. Musical measure: 4/4 and 2/4. In the beginning it is done in 1 beat of 4/4 and later it is done in 1 beat in 2/4.
  30. Battements retires. The movement which precedes the studying of battements developpes. Musical measure: 4/4. 
  31. Battements developpes to the side, forward and backward. In the beginning it is studied while facing the barre. To the front it is done while holding the barre with one hand. Musical measure: 4/4. The movement is studied in 2 beats of 4/4.
  32. Battements developpes passes. It is done in the 2nd term. 
  33. Rond de jambe par terre in plie en dehors and en dedans is studied as a conclusion of rond de jambe par terre. Musical measure: 4/4. The movement is done in 2 beats of 4/4. 
  34. 1th port de bras and 3rd port de bras are combined with different exercises, 3rd port de bras is done as the conclusion of rond de jambe par terre. Musical measure: 4/4. The movement is done in 2 beats of 4/4. \
  35. Pas de bourree with changing legs en dehors and en dedans; it is studied while facing the barre. Musical measure: 4/4 and 3/4. The movement is studied in 1 beat of 4/4 and later it is done in 1 beat of 3/4. 
  36. Pas de bourree suivi on demi-pointes in 5th position. Musical measure: 4/4 and 3/4. The movement is done on each 1/8. 
  37. Bending of the body to the back and side while facing the barre in 1st and 5th positions, it is done at the end of the exercises. Musical measure: 4/4 and 3/4. It is done in 2 beats of 4/4 or 8 beats of 3/4.
  38. Half-turns in 5th position with changing legs on demi-pointes: a) demi-plie in 5th position, releve on demi- pointes, 1/2 turn and finishing in demi-plie b) demi-plie in 5th position, releve on demi-pointes, 1/2 turn and finishing in 5th position with stretched legs. Musical measure: 4/4. The turn is done in 1 beat.
EXVERCISE IN THE CENTRE
The exercises are the same as at the barre, with the addition of epaulement.
  1. Epaulement croise and efface in 5th and 4th positions. In the beginning the meaning of epaulement is explained.
  2. 1st ,2nd and 3rd port de bras. Musical measure: 4/4 and 3/4 The movement is done in 2 beats of 4/4 or 8 beats of 3/4.
  3. The basic positions of classical dance: croisee, effacee, ecarte to the front and back with the arms in large and small poses. The working leg is stretched with the toe to the floor.
  4. 1st, 2nd and 3rd arabesques. The working leg is stretched with the toe to the floor.
  5. Temps lie par terre. Musical measure: 4/4 and 3/4. The movement is done in 2 beats of 4/4 or 8 beats of 3/4.
  6. Releve on demi-pointes in 1st ,2nd and 5th position on stretched legs and finishing in demi-plie.
  7. Pas de bourree with changing legs en dehors and en dedans and finishing in epaulement. Musical measure: 4/4 and 3/4.
  8. Turns in a circle on demi-pointes around oneself and in one place in 5th position (2-4 turns). Musical measure: 2/4 and 3/4; each movement in 1/8 beats.
ALLEGRO
In the beginning jumps are studied while facing the barre. As soon as the basic elementary rules have been accurately demonstrated, the studying progresses to the centre of the studio.
  1. Temps leve in 1st, 2nd and 5th positions. Musical measure: 4/4. The movement is done in 1 beat of 4/4.
  2. Changement de pieds. Musical measure: 4/4. The movement is done in 1 beat of 4/4.
  3. Pas echappe. Musical measure: 4/4. In the beginning it is studied with a stop in 2nd position in 2 beats of 4/4 and then it is done in 1 beat.
  4. Pas assemble to the side. Musical measure: 4/4. The movement is done in 1 beat of 4/4.
  5. Pas jete to the side. Musical measure: 4/4. The movement is done in 1 beat of 4/4.
  6. Sissonne simple. Musical measure: 4/4. The movement is done in 1 beat of 4/4. 
  7. Pas balance. Musical measure: 3/4. Each balance is done in 1 beat of 3/4.
  8. Pas de basque (the stage form). Musical measure: 3/4. Each pas de basque is done in 1 beat of 3/4.
  9. Pas de polka. Musical measure: 2/4. Each pas is done in 1 beat of 2/4.
  10. Springboard jumps in Imposition. Musical measure: 2/4. It is done in beats of 8 segments.
POINTES
In the beginning the movements are studied while facing the barre and upon improvement the studying progresses to the centre of the studio.
  1. Pas releve in 1st, 2nd and 5th positions. Musical measure: 4/4. The movement is done in 1 beat of 4/4.
  2. Pas echappe in 2nd position from 1st and 5th positions. Musical measure: 4/4. The movement is done in 1 beat of 4/4.
  3. Pas assemble soutenu. Musical measure: 4/4. The movement is done in 1 beat of 4/4, later in 2/4.
  4. Pas de bourree with changing legs. Musical measure: 2/4 and 3/4. The movement is done in 1 beat of 2/4 or 1 beat of 3/4.
  5. Pas couru forward and backward in an unturned 1st position. Musical measure: 2/4 and 3/4.
  6. Pas de bourree suivi in 5th position with and without movement to the side. Musical measure: 2/4 and 3/4.
  7. Turns in one place in 5th position (2-3 turns). Musical measure: 2/4 and 3/4.
  8. Pas glissade (optional). Musical measure: 4/4. The movement is done in 1 beat of 4/4.
CHARACTER DANCE
The character dances have proven to be a very interesting choreographic subject at Victoria Ballet Academy, led by Elena Dmitrieva, an outstanding specialist in this area. The subject of Character dance includes Eastern (Iranian etc.), Gypsy, Hungarian, Italian, Polish, Russian, Spanish, Ukrainian and many others.
HISTORIC DANCE
The subject of Historic Dance includes those danced at the Royal Courts during medieval and renaissance periods. Romanesque, Gavotte, Minuet, Gallop, Burgundy, Brandle, Rigatoni and others can be examples of historic dances.
Historic dance is led by Elena Dmitrieva, an exclusively rare specialist in this area of choreographic science.

These are additional compulsory subjects for students of our professional course of study.
