A Holiday Tradition for the Whole Family to Enjoy Ballet Poster The history of The Nutcracker ballet dates back to December of 1892, when it was performed for the first time at the Imperial Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg, Russia, cradle of the most famous ballet dancers and choreographers of classical ballet. The original story on which the Nutcracker’s libretto was based was written by E.T.A. Hoffman with the title “The Nutcracker and the Mouse King”. A later adaptation of this work by Alexander Dumas was the version used by renowned Ballet Masters and Choreographers, Marious Petipa and Lev Ivanov. Big History for Young Minds Have your children ever asked you “why do I need math” or “why do I need science”, or any other subject for that matter? Perhaps you have wondered upon the relevancy of one topic or another in the grand scheme of knowledge. As the sum of all human knowledge grows our ability to study and remember it seems less and less adequate – in fact, it is impossible for any one individual to remember all information even within one specific area of one specific field. Since then ballet has evolved into the science and dance form we know today. Ballet lessons offer the most comprehensive boost to overall development any activity has to offer. Students learn how to set goals, how to manage stress, and how to accomplish great things by taking small steps, thus providing a tremendous confidence boost, and, just as importantly, a unique opportunity for children to see that hard work pays off in the end – with unbelievable results! Not everyone has to become a professional dancer – all the benefits can be gained through [...]

Anastasia Loskutov: I Am a Ballerina My name is Anastasia Loskutova, and I am a ballerina. I want to tell you a story about my journey thus far. I was born to a family far removed from the arts, and at an early age – when I was 4 – we moved to Canada. Growing up I was physically weaker than other children, and doctors made me do all sorts of strange exercises without any results. Instead, in their infinite wisdom, my parents signed me up to Victoria International Ballet Academy under the guidance of Victoria Mironova. Four years of intense exercise under the guiding hands of Ms.Mironova later I had returned to the doctors. They were completely amazed, the improvement was staggering! Ballet, we were told, was the [...]
