Trips and Competitions
The Academy has imposed the policy that the process of education should not be disrupted by competitions and performances. Students of the Victoria Ballet Academy rehearse and participate in theatre performances to practice and gain additional skills but not for the sake of competition.
The most successful students take part in trips to different schools and competitions in various countries. For example, a few students of the Academy were honoured to be received at the Vaganova Academy of Russian Ballet and the Maryinsky (formerly the Kirov) Theatre in St. Petersburg, Russia, in January 2005. On the way back they visited Warsaw – one of the Europe’s capital cities. In June 2006, students of the Academy will visit Vienna, the capital city of Austria, and they took part in the international competition of professional ballet schools in the City of Odessa, Ukraine. Our student won the First Place in the nomination for her age. The Academy has received invitations for competition from other ballet schools abroad.
Three grade 9 students of the Victoria Ballet Academy represented Canada at the International Dance Competition in Beijing, China, from October 25 to November 1, 2008. The trip and accommodations of the three participants were sponsored by the Chinese Competition Committee.
Victtoria Ballet Academy is invited by the Chinese Organization Committee to participate in same competition in 2010.
June 21 through July 2, 2009, the school students and some of their parents participated in the school trip called “The Journey to the World Capital of Ballet: St. Petersburg, Russia.” The participants visited the Mariinsky Theatre of St. Petersburg, met some of its ballet dancers, toured the city of St. Petersburg, Helsinki (Finland) and Stockholm (Sweden).
When a student of the recreational evening dance program wishes to participate in a particular competition or festival, parents may inform the administration of the Academy in order to discuss the options. The Academy will support the student in preparation and organization of the participation in that competition or festival.
