Full Time Day School
The Victoria Ballet Academy is an independent Canadian school registered with the Ministry of Education of Ontario under number 667420.
The Academy develops children to their highest potential academically, professionally and socially. The proven methods of traditional European academic systems are used at the school. Small teacher to student ratios, a unique curriculum and an earnest, thoughtful atmosphere foster an opportunity for academic excellence and development of learning and life skills. Our students become creative, healthy and active members of society. We guarantee high educational standards. A balance of intellectual and physical work is considered necessary to stimulate creativity and a healthy lifestyle. Ballet is a powerful tool contributing to our students’ development and their stronger education but it may become a lifetime endeavour.
Admission to the elementary academic program (grade SK) requires that the student be a minimum of 5 years of age. The elementary program is designed for children who have passed an audition in which they have shown promising results for admittance to the Professional Choreographic Program. Preparatory choreographic knowledge and understanding of the ballet and related arts are taught in grades one through four. These grades are considered an ongoing audition process for the candidates.
Academic education combined with the professional choreographic education starts at grade five. The Professional Choreography Program requires that the students be a minimum of 9 years of age. Successful students of the Academy will graduate from Grade 12 with the Ontario Secondary School Diploma and with an Artiste de Ballet Diploma. The courses meet all Diploma requirements set out by the Ministry of Education of Ontario; they are, moreover, enhanced according to the proven methods of major European academic systems.
The Victoria Ballet Academy is authorized by the Ontario Ministry of Education to grant High School Credits towards the Ontario Secondary School Diploma. Our ballet program is a part of the compulsory Art Program in High School. Additional optional credits can be earned during four years of high school studies. Our school offers High School Credits for after-school ballet classes. A separate Ontario Diploma Transcript will be issued to successful students. It can be used by school graduates for university entrance, if a student so wishes. For more information please contact us or consult the Ontario Ministry of Education.
